Leopard Gecko Incubation Temperature
The Leopard gecko incubation temperature is the temperature the
incubator
must be set at to get viable Leopard gecko babies after
incubation. It is a known fact that Leopard gecko have what we
call a temperature-dependant sexual dimorphism. In other words,
the Leopard gecko incubation temperature contributes to the
sexual ratio of these lizards. In most other lizard species the
sexual ratio is equal for males and females, but with Leopard
geckos the ratio can partially be controlled with the upper and
lower range of the normal incubating temperatures.
The normal Leopard gecko incubation temperature, which is said
to produce an equal amount of males and females is 26 - 32 °C /
80 - 90 °F. To slightly favor males over females higher
incubation temperatures should be used (31 - 32 °C / 88 - 90
°F). Females Leopard gecko babies will be slightly more at 26 -
27 °C / 80 - 82 °C.
The Leopard gecko incubation temperature will have an affect on
the
incubation period. |
