Leopard Gecko
Feeding Introduction
When you adopt a Leopard gecko it becomes
your responsibility to look after it. Leopard gecko feeding is
probably the activity you are going to be doing the most, but it
is probably also the most rewarding part of having a reptile pet
in the first place.
The major Leopard gecko foods
that can be offered should mainly consist of crickets and
mealworms.
Leopard
Gecko Foods
Running insects
like crickets,
cockroaches and
Dubia roaches should be offered alive. Their
average cricket size should be about the length of the size between the
eyes of the Leopard gecko eating them and should be gradually
increased to adult crickets. Baby Leopard geckos will need small
to medium sized feeder insects to start off where adults will easily
be able consume adults most commercial adults. Leopard gecko
foods should only be
offered during the active parts of their day, i.e. during the
evenings.
Crawling insects like
mealworms,
waxworms,
Phoenix worms,
silkworms and
Trevo worms can be fed at libitum (always be
available). They can be offered in a small escape proof dish.
Although there should always be crawlies available, they must
be replaced with fresh ones at least every second day. Some
keepers prefer to keep the crawling foods in the same container the
powdered
supplements are offered in to stimulate their
intake.
Leopard
Gecko Feeding Instructions
Leopard gecko feeding must be done at least
once a day. Only enough crickets should be offered which can be
consumed within an hour end the rest should be removed to
prevent free roaming with subsequent Leopard gecko stress, the
spread of diseases and the possibility of toe nibbling. Crickets
should be gut loaded
before every feeding and
dusted with a suitable
supplement at least every second day.
